Safe Schools - Healthy Students Initiative

External and Empowerment Evaluation

The Fresno Unified School District has a Safe Schools, Healthy Students Initiative. Kirk Whitney is the Project Director, Kathryn Phillips is the Mental Health Services liaison, and Malati Gopal is the local Evaluator and Administrative Analyst. Dr. Fetterman is serving as the external evaluator on this project.

The goal of this collaboration is to increase student health and safety in order to enable students to learn more effectively in school.

Partners include school principals, nurses, case workers, mental health professionals, administrators, among many others.

The Safe Schools web site has additional information about the project. We have engaged in an empowerment evaluation to facilitate the process and establish a common mission. We have also prioritized activities and rated the quality of our efforts to date. The next step will be to plan for the future - implementing an intervention and then assessing our effectiveness once again. A brief video is presented below.
